Fall 2003 Speakers Profiles

Don Chiu, a Master of Mechanical Engineering. Don worked for Boeing, and participated in part of the design of a plane. He also talked about his experience working with other engineerers. Don now works for a company called Agilent Technology.

Mairead Stackpoole, PhD of Material Science, came and gave our members a speech. Mairead Stackpoole grew up in a small town in Ireland. After high school she went to college and got her undergraduate degree in Materials Science and Engineering. During her undergrad she went on a nine month Co-op at The Boeing Company in Seattle working at Boeing Materials Technology processing composite materials for the aerospace industry. She attended graduate school at The University of Washington and got her M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Materials Science and Engineering. While at the University of Washington, she had the opportunity to intern at Pacific Northwest National Laboratories (a DOE facility in Washington state). She currently works for ELORET Corp, as an on site contractor at NASA Ames Research Center. She works on upgrades and development of Thermal Protection Systems (TPS).

Chen Ting, graduated at University of Taiwan with a Bachelor degree in Chemistry. After that, He then went to University of Chicago and got a PhD Degree in Chemistry. Later, he worked at Lock Heed Martin Missile and Space. Today, Chen is retired, but he is still working on electronic books with people in Taiwan. During the meeting, Chen showed us a circuit uses two stacks his company designed and the fourth programming language he participated in developing. He also discussed about the effect of Vitamin C to human health with our club members.
