D.E. Shaw Group
The D. E. Shaw group is a specialized
investment and technology development firm whose activities
center on various aspects of the intersection between technology
and finance. Headquartered in New York, the D. E. Shaw group
encompasses a number of closely related entities with
approximately US $17 billion in aggregate capital. Activities
range from computer-based quantitative investment management to
the development and financing of technology-oriented business
ventures, but are tied together by a common focus on the
economic implications of technological innovation.
The firm is a major participant in many of the world’s capital
markets, trading a wide range of financial instruments. In
addition, it seeks to make selected private equity investments
within industries it believes are likely to be fundamentally
transformed by the use of technology, often “incubating”
start-up firms within the D. E. Shaw group. Ventures have
included one of the nation’s largest Internet service providers,
a leading provider of computational chemistry software, and a
highly regarded drug discovery firm pursuing a promising new
approach to the treatment of cancer.
The D. E. Shaw group members do not discriminate, in employment
matters, on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, national
origin, age, military service eligibility, veteran status,
sexual orientation, marital status, disability, or any other
protected class.
