Primary Job Responsibilities This position is responsible for maintaining and monitoring the batch operations job schedule. This includes understanding the business requirements, the product development technical details and functional job workflow in the Appworx job scheduling application. The Batch Operations Engineer has primary responsibility for all batch monitoring and tools as well as first tier resolution of production issues. Additionally, the successful candidate will work quickly under pressure to execute actions required to maintain site availability and performance.

Specific objectives include:

  • Proactively monitor the alerts console and act on batch failure notifications. Review logs, reference documentation and use working knowledge of applications to resolve batch failures. Understand all components of the eBay site infrastructure in order to analyze impact of alarms and other system messages.
  • Work with external teams (DBA, SysAdm, etc.) to diagnose complex problems and drive resolution. Resolve errors and alarms quickly and provide timely escalation.
  • Execute tickets requesting ad-hoc execution of production jobs. Validate the completeness and accuracy of the request, execute and provide results/feedback to the requester. Work with requester to troubleshoot and resolve any problems encountered along the way.
  • Own and maintain the Batch Ops job documentation repository. Work with project delivery teams to ensure that when jobs are rolled to site, that the corresponding documentation is delivered and properly associated with the job in our repository. Also, as existing jobs are up-rev'd, work with PD to upload corresponding new versions of the documentation.
  • Maintain and improve the doc repository infrastructure. Build upon and improve the current basic infrastructure by further integrating and automating the process.
  • Gather and analyze standardized metrics reports on batch failures. Work with a cross-functional group of people (DBAs, SAs, PD) to identify and resolve root cause of chronic failures.
